Optimization Benchmark Problems for Industrial Applications
Investigating R&D Committee on New Development of Computational Intelligence Techniques and Their Applications to Industrial Systems
Keyword : optimization, industrial applications, benchmark problems
Various applications of energy saving and environmental protection technologies have been developed in many fields of industries. An optimal operation, which can minimize plant or equipment operation cost subjected to various constraints, is one of the typical applications. Target problems of the applications are formulated as optimization problems and can be solved using effective optimization methods considering problem characteristics.
Generally, conventional benchmark problems have been used for verification of optimization methods performance such as robustness, computational speed, and quality of obtained solutions. Generally, the conventional benchmark problems are not based on practical problems in industrial fields. Therefore, those methods, which can obtain good results for conventional benchmark problems, may not obtain good results for practical problems.
In this technical report, we have developed novel benchmark problems for industrial applications based on practical problems in various industrial fields. The problems include "energy plant operation planning", "water supply pump planning", "automatic picking system operation planning", "best-mixed power generation planning with operational uncertainty" and "PID controller design for boiler plant control".
