Author Qualifications and Submission Methods<\/h3>\n

Q: Can I submit a paper if I am not an IEEJ member?<\/p>\n

A: Yes. Non-members may submit papers. However, if all authors are non-members, a higher publication fee than that applicable to manuscripts including at least one IEEJ member will be charged.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: What types of manuscripts can be submitted?<\/p>\n

A: Transactions A, B, C, D, E and the IEEJ Journal of Industry Applications (JIA) accepts submissions of “Papers,” “Technical Notes,” “Research and Development Letters,” and “Discussions.” The IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering (TEEE) accepts only “Papers” and “Research and Development Letters.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: How do I submit a manuscript?<\/p>\n

A: The submission, receipt, peer review, and resubmission of Papers, Technical Notes, and Letters are all handled through the IEEJ online submission and IEEJ Paper Management System (ScholarOne Manuscripts). Once a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the final manuscript must be submitted separately through the IEEJ Author Proofing System.
Submissions of Discussions cannot be made through the online submission and IEEJ Paper Management System. If you wish to submit a Discussion, please contact the IEEJ Editorial Section first by e-mail at edit(at)iee.or.jp [ (at) > @ ].<\/p>\n

Q: Can I change or add authors after submitting a manuscript?<\/p>\n

A: No. Replacement of a submitted manuscript and the addition or removal of authors after submission are not permitted. However, you may change the order of the authors and update their affiliations.<\/p>\n

Q: I am not sure which journal I should submit my manuscript to.<\/p>\n

A: The appropriate journal depends on the subject area and the language of your manuscript. The IEEJ publishes seven journals: IEEJ Transactions on Fundamentals and Materials (Transactions A), IEEJ Transactions on Power and Energy (Transactions B), IEEJ Transactions on Electronics, Information and Systems (Transactions C), IEEJ Transactions on Industry Applications (Transactions D), IEEJ Journal of Industry Applications, IEEJ Transactions on Sensors and Micromachines (Transactions E), and IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Each journal has its own scope and language requirements. For details, please refer to Appendix Table 1, “Topical Categories and Scope of the IEEJ Transactions” in the Guide for Authors.<\/p>\n

Q: Can I submit a paper that has been published in my university bulletin?<\/p>\n

A: Yes, provided that the university bulletin is not peer-reviewed and that you agree to transfer the copyright of the manuscript to the IEEJ. For further information, please refer to the FAQ of the Guide for Authors for the IEEJ Transactions.<\/p>\n

Peer Review<\/h3>\n

Q: Are Papers, Technical Notes, Letters, etc. submitted to the IEEJ Transactions peer reviewed?<\/p>\n

A: Papers and Technical Notes are each reviewed by two reviewers, and Letters are reviewed by one reviewer.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: How long does the review process take?<\/p>\n

A: Reviewers are asked to complete their review within one month for Papers and Technical Notes, and within two weeks for Letters. However, depending on the content of the manuscript, selecting reviewers can take additional time, so notification of the review result may take longer than these periods. Thank you for your understanding.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: Can I resubmit a manuscript after the resubmission deadline has passed?<\/p>\n

A: No. Once the resubmission deadline has passed, the manuscript cannot be resubmitted; please submit it again as a new submission. When submitting a revised version of a manuscript that previously received Evaluation C (Rereview after major revision) or Evaluation B (Accept after minor revision) as a new submission, IEEJ recommends attaching the previous paper ID and the reasons for the return, or the reviewers’ inquiries and your response (no specific format required).<\/p>\n

Q: If my manuscript receives Evaluation D (Reject), can I appeal the decision?<\/p>\n

A: Yes. If your manuscript receives Evaluation D (Reject), you may submit a written appeal concerning the same manuscript within 20 days from the date of notification of the rejection. For details, please refer to the Author’s Guidelines.<\/p>\n

Manuscript Preparation<\/h3>\n

Q: How should I prepare my manuscript?<\/p>\n

A: The IEEJ LaTeX Style File and MS-Word Template are available on the IEEJ website – please use them. An EndNote style file is also available for manuscripts written in English.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: Is there a page limit for manuscripts?<\/p>\n

A: Yes. In principle, Papers and Technical Notes should be 6 printed pages or less, with a maximum of 14 pages allowed. Letters should not exceed 2 printed pages, and Discussions should not exceed 1 printed page.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: What format should the manuscript follow?<\/p>\n

A: In principle, authors should use the IEEJ LaTeX Style File or MS-Word Template. A different publishing fee applies if these are not used. Even without using the Style File or Template, manuscripts must still be formatted according to “Appendix 1: Sample of Paper and Technical Note” (for manuscripts in Japanese) or “Appendix 2: Sample of Paper, Technical Note” (for manuscripts in English).<\/p>\n

Q: Are there rules for preparing figures, photographs, and tables?<\/p>\n

A: Yes. Figures, photographs, and tables must be prepared according to “Appendix 3: Guidelines for Figures, Photographs and Tables Preparation.”<\/p>\n

Q: Is there a size limit for figures, photographs, and tables?<\/p>\n

A: The standard width for a one-column figure, photograph, or table is 75 mm or less. The maximum width for a two-column figure is 165 mm.<\/p>\n

Q: How should references be listed?<\/p>\n

A: References should be numbered consecutively and listed together at the end of the main text, with the corresponding reference number inserted as a superscript in parentheses at the relevant point in the text. References should, in principle, be written in English; for references originally in Japanese, both the Japanese and English should be given. For details, see “References” of Author’s Guidelines.<\/p>\n

Q: The reference format in papers already published in TEEE (the IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering) looks different from the sample in the Author’s Guidelines. When submitting to TEEE, should I follow the format used in already-published TEEE papers instead?<\/p>\n

A: No. Please follow the format shown in the sample in the Author’s Guidelines.<\/p>\n

Q: Can I cite a paper that is currently under submission as a reference?<\/p>\n

A: No. Papers or articles under submission must not be cited.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: How should I write the author’s biography?<\/p>\n

A: At the end of the manuscript, place a facial photograph (28 mm x 22 mm) flush left, with the author’s name and IEEJ membership category above it, followed by an introduction of about 130 words. For Letters, this may be omitted.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: My affiliation changed before my paper was published. Can I revise the author’s biography included in the paper?<\/p>\n

A: Yes, revisions are possible up until you confirm the proof manuscript after notification of acceptance.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: Is it possible to omit the author’s facial photograph?<\/p>\n

A: Yes. In the final manuscript submitted after notification of acceptance, for any author who does not wish to include a photograph, please write “Photograph omitted at the author’s request” in the photograph box.<\/p>\n

Q: Can two people be listed as the Corresponding author in the footnote at the bottom left of page 1?<\/p>\n

A: Only one person may be listed as the Corresponding author.<\/p>\n

Copyright and Duplicate Submission<\/h3>\n

Q: If my submitted paper is accepted for publication, can I choose to have it published open access?<\/p>\n

A: Open access is available only for TEEE (the IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering), by paying the Article Publication Charge (APC) to John Wiley & Sons. The IEEJ Journal of Industry Applications is currently provided as free access. Open access is not available for Transactions A, B, C, D, or E.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: Who owns the copyright of a submitted paper?<\/p>\n

A: In principle, the copyright of Papers, Technical Notes, Letters, and Discussions published in the IEEJ Transactions belongs to IEEJ. If open access is selected for TEEE, the copyright belongs to the author.
However, even after copyright is transferred, the following rights remain with the author:
(a) Rights other than copyright, such as patent rights.
(b) The right to use the work as part of compiling the author’s own body of work.
(c) The right to reproduce the work for non-commercial purposes (e.g., as educational material).
(d) Other uses that do not violate the Copyright Act of Japan.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: Can I submit a paper to the IEEJ Transactions that has already been submitted to another journal?<\/p>\n

A: A paper that has been submitted to, or published in, a “released publication” prior to submission to IEEJ cannot be submitted to the IEEJ Transactions. However, a paper that is non-problematic with respect to copyright law and has been published in a publication other than a “released publication” may be submitted as a new Paper, Technical Note, or Letter, provided the manuscript clearly states that it has been previously published and the previously published manuscript is attached to the submission. For details, please refer to the “IEEJ Author’s Guidelines FAQ.”<\/p>\n

Q: Can I submit a paper that was presented at the Annual Meeting of IEEJ?<\/p>\n

A: Yes. Content presented at meetings sponsored or co-sponsored by IEEJ, or similar meetings, can be submitted as a new paper.<\/p>\n

Q: Can I submit a paper that was posted on a preprint server?<\/p>\n

A: Yes, provided the copyright belongs to the author. However, the preprint must not be revised after submission to the Transactions, and once the Transactions paper is published, a link to it must be added to the preprint.<\/p>\n

Q: Are there precautions to take when quoting the work of others?<\/p>\n

A: Care must be taken to avoid infringing copyright, and for any quotation that requires permission, written permission for reproduction must be obtained free of charge.<\/p>\n

Q: What happens to the copyright if a paper is rejected (Evaluation D)?<\/p>\n

A: The transfer of copyright to IEEJ becomes invalid at the moment the decision to reject is made.<\/p>\n

Publishing Fees and Costs<\/h3>\n

Q: Is there a fee to have a paper published in the Transactions?<\/p>\n

A: Yes, the publishing fee specified in the Author’s Guidelines applies. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: How is the publishing fee determined?<\/p>\n

A: The publishing fee depends on the number of pages, whether an IEEJ member is included among the authors, and whether the designated template was used. For details, see “Publishing Fees” in the Author’s Guidelines.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: What is considered a “manuscript with an IEEJ member among the authors”?<\/p>\n

A: This refers to a manuscript in which at least one author has become an IEEJ member by the time the notification of acceptance is issued.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: When will I receive the invoice for the publishing fee?<\/p>\n

A: The invoice, quotation, and delivery note for the publishing fee are sent by email in the middle of the month in which the relevant issue is published. However, for manuscripts whose authors all reside overseas, the invoice is issued before arrangements for publication are made.<\/p>\n

Q: How should I pay the publishing fee?<\/p>\n

A: Please pay by bank transfer.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: Can I pay the publishing fee by credit card?<\/p>\n

A: No, credit card payment is not accepted.<\/p>\n

Q: Can the publishing fee be waived?<\/p>\n

A: For submissions from outside Japan with no Japanese authors, where payment of the publishing fee would be difficult, part of the fee may be waived by submitting a request letter (no specific format required) at the time of initial submission. Please note that requests cannot be submitted after the manuscript has been submitted.<\/p>\n

Q: What happens if payment of the publishing fee is delinquent?<\/p>\n

A: If the publishing fee is not paid within one year of publication, no new submissions will be accepted from any of the authors of that paper until payment is confirmed.<\/p>\n

Q: If I withdraw my manuscript after it has been accepted, do I still need to pay the publishing fee?<\/p>\n

A: In principle, manuscripts cannot be withdrawn after notification of acceptance. Even if IEEJ approves a withdrawal, the publishing fee must still be paid.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: What is the cost of publishing open access?<\/p>\n

A: For open access in TEEE, an Article Publication Charge (APC) of $2,900 per manuscript, regardless of the number of pages, is paid to John Wiley & Sons instead of the publishing fee. The same fee applies to Letters.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Q: When publishing open access in TEEE, can I use a transformative agreement with my university instead of paying the APC myself?<\/p>\n

A: Yes, if your university has a transformative agreement with Wiley & Sons. Since the terms vary by institution, please consult the relevant department at your university for details.<\/p>\n

Q: Do the IEEJ Transactions have an Impact Factor?<\/p>\n

A: TEEE (the IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and the translated journals Electrical Engineering in Japan and Electronics and Communications in Japan are registered with SCIE and have an Impact Factor. The IEEJ Journal of Industry Applications is registered with ESCI and has an Impact Factor.
