Requirement Specifications and Evaluation Methods for Fault Current Limiter
Investigation R&D Committee on Evaluation Methods and Fault Detection Technique for Fault Current Limiter
Fault current limiter is expected as an apparatus that suppresses an overcurrent under short-circuit fault condition in electric power system. On the other hand, progress of de-regulation in electric power industry may increase distributed generators interconnected to electric power system. In such system, unforeseen problems such as local increase in short-circuit current may be caused. The fault current limiter is one of the countermeasures for the problems. However, there has been no fault current limiter installed into actual high voltage electric systems. To promote the application of the fault current limiter, it is important to grasp the current state and trends of fault current limiting technology and clarify the subjects. In the investigation R&D committee on evaluation methods and fault detection technique for fault current limiter, the specifications required by utility and evaluation and test methods from the manufacturer’s standpoint were investigated. The results for the subject are written in this technical report.
