The leading-edge power electronic technology
applied to power distribution systems

Investigation committee on
leading-edge power electronic technology applied to power distribution systems

Recently, much attention has been paid on power electronic technology applied to distribution systems such as distributed generations and power quality compensating devices from the point of view of environmental issues, energy resources and higher demand on power quality. The investigation committee on leading-edge power electronic technology applied to power distribution systems in the IEEJ had been carried out investigating research of this field for two years from October, 2004 to September 2006. This report shows the outcome of this research. In this report, these technologies have been summarized as follows: 1) Common new technologies such as multi-level power converter, matrix converter and new power semiconductor devices, 2) New technologies on power quality compensating devices such as active power filters, reactive power compensators, voltage sag and momentary interruption compensators, and transfer switches, 3) Inter connection technologies of distributed generations and energy storage devices to power systems, and new energy distribution systems including many new energy generations such as microgrids and multi-quality power distribution system.
