Technologies of high speed and high precision electromagnetic field analysis
for rotating machines

Investigating R&D Committee on technologies of high speed and high precision electromagnetic field analysis for rotating machines

Owing to the progress of computers and numerical techniques, it has become possible to estimate characteristics of rotating machines by electromagnetic field analyses considering the harmonics, skin effects, and nonlinear magnetic properties of the cores and magnets. They have become indispensable tools for the design and developments of the rotating machines. On the other hand, vast calculation time is still needed, especially in the cases of 3-D analyses and analyses considering carrier harmonics of inverters. Therefore, developments of more accurate and higher speed electromagnetic field analysis are required. In addition, progress of pre and post processors is also desired to handle the complex combinations of the optimizations and coupled analyses. From these points of view, we report the recent developments of the high speed electromagnetic field analyses, high precision modeling for the materials, coupled analyses, pre and post processors, and the application examples using these technologies. In addition, we establish two benchmark models, which are an interior permanent magnet motor model and a basic model of laminated core. We apply various methods of electromagnetic field analyses to these models and compare the accuracy and calculation time. As a result, the features and proper handlings of these methods are clarified.
