Power Conversion Circuits for Utility Power Line Interface
Investigating R&D Committee on Power Conversion Circuits for Utility Power Line Interface
As for the power converter which manages an interface with an ac power supply, many researches have been done for long years. Especially in recent years, in order to realize the mitigation of harmonic current and the regenerative power flow on the converters, application of the PWM control technology which uses on-off control devices, such as Power MOSFET and IGBT, especially became common. Furthermore, the technical element for each application is developed and it is used for the variegated product. For example, the chargers utilizing for the cellular phone are progressing into the integrated electric socket type, based on a high frequency switching technology, a miniaturization technology, and a high power density technology. As for the utility interactive inverters used as the photovoltaic power generation or the fuel cell power generation, the research and development have been promoted in order to realize cost reduction and longer lifetime in addition to low distortion, miniaturization, and weight saving. Furthermore, research of the small and efficient new rectifier, used for internal ac power supply systems in an airplane and a vessel, is also attracting attention. On the other hand, since the technical elements have been distributed to each application filed, then the technology exchange was stagnated and hence the efficiency of the development process was decreased.

In view of such a situation, we have established the technical committee for the electric power converter for an ac power supply interface. And the technical committee investigated both the useful technical element and the technical element that can become common to many application fields. Moreover, a symposium was held in the 2006 Japan Industry Applications Society Conference held in Nagoya Institute of Technology in 2006, and monitored the opinion from a participant. The essential results of an investigation of the committee as well as the contents of the symposium are presented in this report.
